Happiness Becomes the New Brand Currency in Asia Pacific
Grifftheinvisible | SINGAPORE — In a region where consumer expectations are rapidly evolving, happiness is emerging as the most valuable brand currency. According to Collinson International’s newly released 2025 Asia Pacific Consumer Happiness Report, eight in ten consumers in the region rely on brands to deliver not just products, but transformative experiences that enrich their lives.
The study, conducted across eight Asia Pacific (APAC) markets with over 4,000 respondents, revealed that Millennials (89%) and Gen Z (86%) are leading this shift toward experiential brand engagement. Unlike past generations, today’s younger consumers value rewards that nurture connections, fuel personal growth, and help bridge the gap between reality and aspiration.
“Consumers are no longer satisfied with transactional perks. They are seeking meaningful, life-enriching moments — whether that’s attending a global sports event or travelling to see a favorite artist perform,” said Rohan Bhalla, Vice President of Business Solutions for Asia Pacific at Collinson International.
Connection Over Self-Fulfilment
The survey also found that 60% of APAC respondents prefer brand rewards that strengthen ties with family and friends, compared to those that focus solely on individual fulfilment. This preference intensifies with age: 69% of Boomers value rewards that deepen connections, versus 56% of Gen Z.
Dr. William von Hippel, a behavioral psychologist and contributor to the report, explained that consumer happiness hinges on balancing two opposing needs — connection and autonomy. “As people age, their priorities shift from self-development to fostering deeper relationships,” he noted.
Loyalty Beyond Purchases
Brand-driven happiness also shapes loyalty differently across generations. Gen X and Boomers demonstrate loyalty through repeat purchases, while Millennials and Gen Z show it through social media engagement and even defending brands against criticism online.
For businesses, this means that the transformation economy — where happiness and meaning define value — is no longer optional. Brands that deliver exclusive, shared experiences stand to win deeper emotional bonds, stronger affinity, and long-term customer loyalty.
Collinson, which operates the Priority Pass airport lounge network, has already expanded its APAC offerings by 16% over the past year, signaling a growing demand for premium experiences that deliver both convenience and joy.
As the report concludes, in today’s experience-driven world, the real measure of a brand’s success is no longer price or product quality — it’s how happy it makes its customers feel.
